Six years on, still a spreadsheet

TFRS 16 has applied to Thai companies reporting under full Thai Financial Reporting Standards since reporting periods beginning 1 January 2020. Six years on, many finance teams still maintain their lease schedules in a spreadsheet that one person owns and nobody else fully understands.

It's not negligence. The standard is genuinely fiddly: every lease needs a right-of-use asset, a lease liability, an interest unwind, a depreciation schedule, and deferred tax — and they all have to stay consistent with each other through modifications, extensions and early terminations.

A spreadsheet can do that. It just can't do it twice the same way after someone edits a formula.

What it looks like inside Odoo

Enter the lease terms once, and the schedules, depreciation and deferred tax generate and post themselves. A modification recalculates the whole schedule instead of requiring someone to rebuild it.

The test to apply to any approach

If the person who built it left tomorrow, could someone else produce next month's numbers without reverse-engineering anything? If the answer is no, that's not a lease schedule. That's a dependency.
