The five questions
1. Can you show me the Purchase VAT report, live, from posted bills?
Sale VAT is easy — the data comes from invoices you issued. Purchase VAT needs the supplier's tax ID and their document reference captured at entry. If those fields aren't on the bill form, someone rebuilds that report by hand every month.
2. Can you show me a vendor payment with withholding tax and a post-dated cheque?
It should be one document, one accounting entry, with the withholding tax certificate produced. If it takes two journal entries and a Word template, you've found the manual work.
3. Who owns the customisations after go-live?
Ask whether another firm can maintain them, or whether the code is structured so only the original vendor can. Ask to see how it's packaged, not just be told.
4. What happens at the next Odoo version upgrade?
Every custom module is upgrade debt. Ask what the upgrade process is and what it costs. "It's included" and "we'll quote it then" are very different answers.
5. Who will actually be on my project?
Not the org chart. The names, and what else those people are working on during your implementation window.
